Falling again: Contakt

The debut 12” from Contakt is facing forwards. Not Forgotten flies with a giddy momentum, fizzling, Catherine Wheel synths, and a galloping rhythm that feels like its on its way to winning the Grand National. Adrenalizing stuff.

Contakt is a currently anonymous producer, based in New York but hailing from the Midwest. We know is he’s one of the guys behind New York’s TURRBOTAX, responsible for bringing over the likes of Julio Bashmore, Mosca to the States, which perhaps explains the funky inflections of his own work. On this release for Local Action Records he’s also got himself remixed by former Underground Resistance member Rolando, highlighting Detroit as another key fingerprint on the Contakt sound.

Here you can download unreleased track AuH20, which falls in mood and sound somewhere between Not Forgotten and the darker b-side Rhodophyta. Pulsing along on sharp beats, coloured with strings, those giddy synths again skittering forwards into lively, skipping, play.

Local Action released Contakt’s single ‘Not Forgotten’ on February 7th
