Joe Armon-Jones and Maxwell Owin announce first album in 6 years with new title track 'Archetype'

"Drawing from older music that we consider to be the Archetype of what we do now..."

Joe Armon-Jones and Maxwell Owin share the title track to their first album together in 6 years, 'Archetype', out June 9.

Returning into frame to exercise more of that South London underground spirit, the cult duo's new record splices their respective worlds - piecing together Armon-Jones' instinct for fluidity and soul with Owin's flair for brutalist beats.

The new single, also titled 'Archetype', taps up fellow South London scene player O the Ghost for a grime-indebted, jazz-inflected anthem.

Speaking on the track, Armon-Jones shares: "Archetype is the prototype, the original that is now imitated. This was the inspirational theme running through this whole album process: drawing from older music that we consider to be the Archetype of what we do now, in order to move our sound forward."

Following their 2017 debut project 'Idiom', the housemates have gone from strength to strength, having produced, written and collaborated with the likes of Greentea Peng, Nubya Garcia, Oscar Jerome, Mick Jenkins and Moses Boyd.

Maxwell lent his thoughts on the new album in an Instagram post, writing: "Been 6 years in the making and so menny amazing collaborators involved on all sides of the creative spectrum deff learnt a lot and was nice to be reminded that artistic endeavours take time."
