Jorja Smith reworks St Germain's smooth jazz anthem 'Rose Rouge'
Bridging the gap between past and present, Jorja Smith has turned in a rendition of jazz-house hitmaker St Germain’s ‘Rose Rouge’.
The smooth revamp marks the first single from forthcoming album ‘Blue Note Re:imagined’ which sees Decca and Blue Note join forces to produce a brand new collection of classic jazz tracks, brought together on one project for the first time.
Originally drawing inspiration from classic soul, jazz, and reggae, Smith manages to maintain the core spirit of St Germain whilst her vocals zap a much-welcomed serving of contemporary flair upon the meandering saxophone and keys.
The rest of the project is poised to unite some of the jazz scene’s most exciting young talents today, featuring contributions from the likes of Shabaka Hutchings, Ezra Collective, Nubya Garcia, Alfa Mist and many more.
Tracks on the album will pay homage to a wide-spanning catalogue of jazz legends, offering interpretations of songs by the likes of Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Bobby Hutcherson, and Joe Henderson to name a few.
‘Blue Note Re:imagined’ will be released by Decca/Blue Note on September 25th 2020.
