LAMIA's ‘Requiem For A Dream’ Is An Immersive Audiovisual Project
London and Berlin-based electronic artist LAMIA has returned with new single 'Requiem For A Dream' alongside an arthouse style, self-directed music video that serves as the first chapter of her forthcoming visual album, 'Nighthawks'.
Written, produced and performed by LAMIA, the track pairs fractured club rhythms with post-trance atmospherics, while the accompanying film marks her directorial debut. Shot across the neon-lit streets of Hong Kong, the video follows LAMIA through a surreal nocturnal landscape, exploring heartbreak, memory and the difficult process of letting go through cinematic imagery inspired by urban isolation and psychological fragmentation.
"'Requiem For A Dream' examines life's complex experiences, such as tensions between urban dreams of self-actualisation, illusion, and psychological fragmentation," LAMIA explains. "The conceptual exploration through music and video combined is my best work as an artist so far."
The release highlights the multidisciplinary approach that has become central to LAMIA's work. Alongside her career as a producer and performer, she is also a filmmaker and researcher, with her creative practice shaped by synesthesia, a condition that causes her to experience music as vivid cinematic imagery. After graduating from Goldsmiths, University of London, she is now pursuing a second master's degree in film.
To celebrate the release, LAMIA will host a private screening and Q&A for 'Requiem For A Dream' at Berlin's Funkhaus later this month, offering an exclusive preview of the wider 'Nighthawks' project. Both a standalone release and the opening chapter of a larger visual world, 'Requiem For A Dream' exemplifies how LAMIA dissolves the boundaries between electronic music and cinema.
