Monterey J Drops Soul-Soaked Ode to London in ‘South Side Fantasy’
South London-based artist Monterey J returns with ‘South Side Fantasy’, a lush, jazz-infused single featuring rapper Southsidefinn. It marks the first glimpse of his upcoming second album, 'Welcome 2 South London' - a sonic tribute to the capital’s creative heart.
Blending neo-soul, jazz, and hip-hop, the track is rich in texture and local flavour. Monterey J’s smooth vocals float above warm basslines, glowing keys, and soaring saxophone flourishes, painting a vivid portrait of city life. Produced by Grammy-nominated Teo Marangon, the song is brought to life with contributions from a stellar cast of South London musicians including Joey Robbins (drums), Tay Harvey (bass), and Dan McConkey (tenor sax).
“'South Side Fantasy' paints the colours of South London on a rich musical canvas,” says Monterey J. “It’s the soundtrack to walking the Thames on your way to a jam session - it captures the chaos, the passion, and the art life struggle.”
Part homage, part genre experiment, ‘South Side Fantasy’ sets the tone for a record rooted in place and bursting with feeling.
‘South Side Fantasy’ is out now via Minds Eye Music.
