Orchid Drops Sugar-Rush Dance Track 'heaven/jealous'

Glittering bop celebrates mortal pleasures

Orchid blends vibrant dance pop vibes with darker layers of UK Garage on new release 'heaven/jealous', creating a shimmering distillation so sweet it will make your teeth ache.

While celebrating Orchid's long-lasting love of UK garage and bassline, 'heaven/jealous' sings of a world filled with hedonistic pleasures, where the the joy of life and love is so great that it creates envy in incorporeal spirits .

Written by Orchid, produced by Pearse McIntyre and mixed by Tsatsamis, the ethereal bop takes inspiration from a poem by 13th century Persian poet, Rumi. In a book about the wonderland of fungi, Rumi wrote, "sometimes liquid love on earth makes heaven jealous".

Orchid explains: “I heard this quote from Rumi and it took my breath away, about how having a physical body to love others with is better than any prize of an afterlife or immortality can give. I think our world and being alive is underrated. I wanted to write something that celebrated the fleeting reality of love and being a mere mortal, and capture that euphoria and romance. I took the idea of the poem and made it more tongue in cheek and sensual, imagining love in a glutinous, effervescent indulgent earth with all its material things, like this maximalist thirst trap made just for Heaven.”

Accompanying the track is an otherworldly music video, where an illuminated Orchid dances through dreamlike settings, reminiscent of a sugar plum fairy.

'heaven/jealous' is Orchid's eighth release on dance music maverick Jaguar's UTOPIA label. It is also the first single from the London-based artist's upcoming five-track EP, set for release this summer.

'heaven/jealous' is out now via UTOPIA.
