Phrixus experiments with intricate sound design on his 'Doubt' EP

"The EP is about letting go of the feelings of doubt I have surrounding my artistry..."

London DJ/producer Phrixus has the unique touch of an artist who can do experimentalism and make something bang at the same time.

The sound designer recently played our party at Laylow, and today releases ‘Doubt’ via Merci Jitter, a five-tracked offering that slots sleek R&B cuts alongside hyperactive, pointillist bass music. There’s a precision to his work that’s exciting for anyone with even a passing interest in the craft of dance music.

“Doubt’ is the most personal body of work I have created,” Phrixus says of the record. “The EP is about letting go of the feelings of doubt I have surrounding my artistry which cause me to second guess myself and overthink things when I am making music.”

“When writing ‘Doubt’, I tried not to question things so much, tried not to worry about what other people may think of it, and tried not to overthink the process; just to do. Looking back now, I realise this is when the truest version of myself as an artist manifests: to not overthink, just do.”
