Premiere: Walter Ego 'Sensu Beans'

Sheffield producer Walter Ego is back with a new EP on his hometown label Bad Taste Records, having been one of the first ever artists to release on the label back in 2011. Those who’ve followed his career since will know that versatility is one of his key strengths – while perhaps best known for his killer grime collaborations with the likes of Slick Don and Trim, he’s also turned his talents to hip-hop, garage, and even a house record for Kerri Chandler’s MadTech imprint.

The brand new Seven Star Ball EP – yes, anime fans, inspired of course by the “raw energy” of Dragon Ball Z – is Walter Ego at his grimiest. Out 4th August, it houses three razor sharp instrumentals that prove Walter’s beats don’t need an MC straddling them – they hold up just fine on their own. We’re very happy to be premiering ‘Sensu Beans’, which has got these mad melodies pinging about all over the place over crunchy drums and surprisingly mellow bass. In fact, it’s a relative oasis of calm at the centre of the EP, executed with a deftness of touch that belies Walter’s considerable production chops.
