Safiyyah ditches toxic energy for self-growth on 'You Again'

It's about "someone from the past creeping back into your life"...

Flaunting a vocal style sitting somewhere in-between the emotive melodies of Nina Simone and the contemporary R&B zest of IAMDDB, 22-year-old singer-songwriter Safiyyah mines the edges of neo-soul, lo-fi and contemporary jazz, forged into her own bold sound.

Born and raised in West London, the young creative’s single ‘You Again’ is a confluence of past vulnerabilities and the desire to move on, centred around topics of self-improvement, inner-reflection, and cutting out the various toxic aspects that can inch into your life at any time, “whether that be addiction, a person, (an) experience”.

Speaking of the track, Safiyyah says: “‘You Again’ is about someone from the past creeping back into your life and simply letting them know they won’t have the pleasure of knowing you the second time round”.

The accompanying visuals for the single include real life couples sharing some close moments while Safiyyah sits in her bedroom, reflecting on the past yet looking to the future.
