Video Days Unleash Raw Emotion and Sonic Chaos on New Single “Split”
Boston-based alternative rock outfit Video Days make a commanding return with their latest single, 'Split' - a slow-burning, slowcore anthem that builds from quiet introspection into a ferocious wall of noise and catharsis. Blending elements of shoegaze, noise rock, and post-rock, the track marks a bold sonic leap for the rising band, offering a first glimpse into their debut album.
Following the breakout success of their debut EP 'sungazing,' which featured viral singles 'Bleached' and 'When You Loved Me' and earned them nearly 1 million monthly Spotify listeners. 'Split' reveals a darker, more immersive direction. The band trades their lo-fi roots for high-fidelity production, while retaining the raw vulnerability that first drew fans in.
Opening with a sparse guitar loop and centered drum work, the song is anchored by frontwoman Emma’s hushed, spoken-word delivery, drawing comparisons to the understated power of Low and Wednesday. But what begins as quiet self-reflection soon erupts into an overwhelming storm of distortion, feedback, and emotion.
“'Split' was the band’s first true collaborative work,” says Video Days. “Tim brought in the riff, Sam and Jacob added contrasting lead parts, and Emma shaped the lyrics and vocal melody.” After a year of live performances, the song evolved into a defining statement of the band's new identity.
Lyrically, 'Split' explores themes of inner conflict, self-examination, and the tension between stillness and chaos. The shifting dynamics echo these themes, making for a visceral and deeply affecting listen.
'Split' is out now.
