Banks - Before I Ever Met You (S O H N remix)

The Vienna-based British producer turns in another pitch-perfect re-work.

S O H N, the Vienna-via-London vocalist and producer we’ve been crazy about since late 2012, told us recently that his music is all about the “spaces between words”. Far from just a pleasant-sounding tagline, this is proving itself to be more and more true, as he continues to show a bewildering knack for building complete, atmospheric spaces in his music. As an artist, he deftly crafts his own ice-flecked environments, and as a remixer he’s got a way of picking out the crucial elements of a track and widening them, marrying the production so closely to the vocal that there’s scarcely a line between the two. He did it recently for the stunning, layered-vocal re-imagining of Laura Mvula’s Green Garden, and now he’s turned his hand to Banks’s sinister love song Before I Ever Met You. Smoothed out and washed in mournful synths, it’s a spacious re-work that ticks with a palpable sense of unease.

IAMSOUND/Good Years will release Before I Ever Met You on the 4th March 2013.
