Cloud Boat - Hammerspace
Here’s more new stuff from London duo Cloud Boat, whose debut ‘Book Of Hours’ for R&S sister label Apollo is due to drop at the end of next month. The intriguingly named Hammerspace follows the minimal chant-like charms of Youthern, and was played out on Mary Anne Hobbs’ 6music show last week. Incorporating some classic loud/quiet dynamics, with spiky guitars and the whiffs of EDM inspiration, it bounds along determinedly before sinking back in on itself for some string-led ambience toward the close. While MAH calls it a B-side, the press release describes it as being part of a forthcoming double A-side single with Youthern. But it’s got the feel of an old fashioned B-side: energetic, risk-taking and full of roughly sketched-out ideas and reference points.
Apollo will release Youthern/Hammerspace on 20th May, with ‘Book Of Hours’ on the 27th May.
