Fat Cat signing Hauschka to release album, tour

Rich orchestral sounds of Düsseldorf-based composer/pianist Hauschka set to tour the UK in November following the release of his third album 'Foreign Landscapes' on Fat Cat's post-classical imprint 130701.

Hauschka is Düsseldorf classical piano-trained composer Volker Bertelmann. He is due to tour the UK this November.

The press release tell us: “Having studied classical piano for ten years, his work as Hauschka is based upon an exploration of the possibilities of the ‘prepared’ piano. Creatively undermining the preconceived idea of the piano as a pure-toned, perfected instrument waiting for a gifted virtuoso to play on it, Bertelmann instead modifies it by placing an assortment of material (gaffa tape, kitchen foil, felt wedges, bottle tops, ping pong balls, guitar string, etc) within its innards. What results are vivid, unconventional pieces made in a spirit of playful research-enthusiasm”.

Hauschka Autumn tour dates:
Tue 9 November – London, Bush Hall (ensemble show)
Wed 10 November – Oxford, St. Michael At The Northgate
Thu 11 November – Brighton, Duke Of York’s
Fri 12 November – Coventry, St. Johns The Baptist Church
Sat 13 November – Manchester, Lowry Hotel (2 performances)
Sun 14 November – Gateshead, Sage
Mon 15 November – Glasgow, University Chapel
