Joy Crookes announces debut album and headline tour

The singer-songwriter and masterful instrumentalist is fast-becoming a national treasure...

Today Joy Crookes announces her much anticipated debut album ‘Skin’, due for release October 15th, along with a headline UK and EU tour. Having been nominated for the Brits 2020 Rising Star Award as well as placing fourth on the BBC Sound Poll, the singer-songwriter and masterful instrumentalist is fast-becoming a national treasure. At only 22, she’s played Glastonbury, BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Later… With Jools Holland, and pre-pandemic, she was due to support Harry Styles at The O2 in London.

With the soul-blues feel that comes with Joy Crookes’ music, she been compared to Amy Winehouse; she is also credited as the executive producer on the new album alongside Blue May (Kano, Blood Orange). ‘Skin’ is a hugely personal collection of tracks that she has written and honed through her teens and into her early twenties.

The forthcoming album is set to have a moving, cinematic quality – the most recent preview fans have heard from ‘Skin’, is her single, ‘When You Were Mine’, built around a full brass section and detailing nostalgic summer nights in Brixton. It follows lead single ‘Feet Don’t Fail Me Now’ and title track ‘Skin’. Matching the song’s temperament, a music video for ‘Skin’ has also been shared, with Joy herself starring in it, captured on a mobile bed which moves through London during the night like a car in an old Hollywood movie.

As a proud South Londoner of Bangladesh and Irish heritage, Joy sees herself as part of a beautiful ecosystem of storytellers, mavericks, and ‘salt of the earth’ Londoners, using her creativity as a tool to understand her own identity, her place in the world and her relationships within it.

Pre-sale for tour dates begins 9am Tuesday 7th September, with general sale 9am Thursday 9th September. For more info click here.

‘When You Were Mine’ is available to stream here.
