Music venues are exempt from the 10pm curfew, government confirms
Music venues are exempt from the new curfew restrictions imposed in England.
Speaking to NME yesterday, a spokesperson for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport clarified the new curfew rules, stating that “dedicated music venues may conclude after the 10pm curfew as long as a performance starts before 10pm, however outlets, including bars, must be closed by this point.”
CEO of Music Venue Trust Mark Davyd also confirmed to NME that this will include a number of grassroots music venues.
However, many venues have explained that with the current social distancing rules it is very difficult to operate without losing money.
The curfew comes as the UK’s Covid-19 alert level rose from three to four, meaning transmission of the virus is ‘high or rising exponentially’. Yesterday, the government announced 6,178 new cases – the highest figure of daily cases since May 1st.
