SOPHIE, Jorja Smith and Peggy Gou scooped prizes at the 2018 AIM Awards
Last night was the eighth annual AIM Independent Music Awards, an event that honours artists outside of the major label system.
Jorja Smith took home the UK Breakthrough of the Year prize, while Peggy Gou received Independent Track of the Year with her heavily rotated Ninja Tune effort ‘It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)’.
SOPHIE took the coveted Innovator Award (serving up a serious look on the night), while UK rap was represented by Dave, who scooped the PPL Award for Most Played New Independent Artist.
6 Music’s Tracey Thorn was given Outstanding Contribution to Music, with Goldie being honoured as Pioneer.
Label gongs were handed out to two electronic imprints – Ninja Tune, for Independent Label of the Year, with Best Small Label being awarded to Black Acre.
