Soul Train creator dies in suspected suicide

Don Cornelius, the creator of the famous Soul Train music show, has died following a gun shot wound to the head.

American TV show host and producer Don Cornelius has died in hospital after being found in his LA home with a gunshot wound to his head in the early hours of Wednesday 1st February, according to the LA Times. While there are apparently no signs of foul play, the investigation is ongoing.

Born in Chicago in 1936, Don Cornelius began his career as a journalist and radio DJ before creating the famous Soul Train music show in 1971. It ran for 35 years with over 1,100 shows produced providing a platform for soul, R&B, hip hop, disco and jazz legends including Al Green, Bobby Womack, Donna Summer, Tina Turner, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Aaliyah and many, many more.
