The Design Museum is reopening with an exhibition about Kraftwerk and the Chemical Brothers
A new exhibition promising to evoke the experience of being in a club is showing at The Design Museum from the end of July onwards.
‘Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers’ was due to open its doors on April 1st, but these plans were halted by Covid-19.
Opening from July 31st 2020, the exhibition promises a 3D show capturing Kraftwerk’s music and stage performances, for which the Kensington museum has installed a surround sound system based on the sonic setup in the German group’s Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf.
The visual world of The Chemical Brothers is also highlighted in the exhibition, with visuals and lights from the Bros’ show directors Smith & Lyall creating a three-dimensional experience.
As well as these two groups, the show will examine dancefloors across Detroit, Chicago, Paris and Berlin as well as the UK, with over 400 objects on display from the likes of Jeff Mills and Richie Hawtin, Haçienda designer Ben Kelly and Weirdcore’s visuals for Aphex Twin’s Collapse.
The museum is to enforce new safety procedures including reduced capacity, face masks and social distancing.
