Vince Staples - Champagne Wishlist

Long Beach resident Vince Staples has already had guest spots on Odd Future tapes – as well as a feature on Spaceghost Purrp’s March Raider Klan mix – but some of his most interesting work as come from a fruitful collaboration with Michael Uzowuru. Uzowuru’s production tends towards the orchestral and, amongst a broad range of influences, often harks back to the stately strings that marked Kanye West’s sophomore release ‘Late Registration’. This gives the Staples the perfect opportunity to tell a story of the struggles and pitfalls of the game. Rapping articulately and with candour is hip-hop’s bread-and-butter but there is a certain gravitas in his content and delivery that’s great to hear.
