Detroit’s Daniel Hex has opened his account for 2021 in style with the experimental hip-hop cut ‘Signal Down’. Putting his distinctive vocal style to use, the rising rapper weaves distorted lyrics through a series of mind bending effects, creating a snappy track which begs to be replayed.
2. Beringei – ‘Without You’
‘Without You’ is a woozy number showcasing Beringei’s broken-beat production to its glistening full potential. Teaming up with frequent collaborator and label-mate William Florelle, the track draws on soul, R&B and house to land at the nostalgic sound.
3. babe. – ‘High Thoughts’
Making smooth lo-fi numbers within the confinements of her bedroom, Los Angeles-based artist babe. has come on leaps and bounds during lockdown. Her latest track ‘High Thoughts’ is a catchy offering which weaves soulful melodies between vibrant key progressions and hazy textures.
4. Drumheller – ‘Kayfabe’
Inspired by global club and electronic music, Glasgow-based DJ and producer Drumheller utilises punishing percussion and bass to arrive at his infectious sound. Incorporating his love of UK Funky, Hard Drum and Baile Funk into his work; ‘Kayfabe’ is a scorcher.
5. Sunnbrella – ‘Lost & Found’
Coursing London-based artist Sunnbrella’s latest single is a snappy indie rock aesthetic which puts to use hazy reverb and intimate vocal croons. Behind the melancholy sound, the lyrics address being lost and found in a culture where insecurities and toxic habits are rife.
