Premiere: AikJ roams a kaleidoscopic London in home-made music video for 'Constantly'

It's not the first time the artist has experimented with psychedelic visuals...

Born in Nigeria but raised in the streets of Dublin, AikJ has already made big moves this summer with the release of his future-facing ‘PHA$E’ EP. Now, the rising alt-R&B artist returns with a brand new visual for the project’s centrepiece.

From the Afro-infused opener ‘Phases’ (the music video for this track dropped a few months back) to the shuffling 2-step beat of ‘Lose Control’, the EP’s most popular single so far ‘Constantly’ brings together the worlds of R&B and drill.

Speaking about the song, AikJ says: “It speaks from a perspective of someone trying to make sense of the new feeling of companionship. Being so accustomed to a life of self, it becomes a hard adjustment to cater to someone else’s needs. The urge to always be around that person and dependent on their energy to fuel yours becomes foreign upon analysis. But never wanting this new experience to end.”

Accompanying the melodic, drill-inflicted track, AikJ’s new music video takes a hallucinatory turn, splicing an arsenal of kaleidoscopic effects with his home-made iPhone shots. It’s not the first time the artist has experimented with psychedelic visuals – 2020’s ‘Replacement’ featuring Ama and Evans Jnr received a similar treatment.

Now 2 years on from that release, the new visual traces AikJ’s upwards trajectory since beginning the roll-out for his ‘PHA$E’ EP and stakes his claim as one of the underground’s most promising prospects.

AikJ’s ‘PHA$E’ EP was self-released on June 30 2022.
