Watch a two-hour video shot at the Paradise Garage's closing parties
With all the discussion today about disco making a comeback (a discussion, we should add, that has been going on for about 30 years now), it seems very appropriate that a new video of the Paradise Garage’s closing parties should have appeared online.
The two-hour video was shared on the Garage’s Facebook fanpage earlier today and documents the parties held on August 22nd and August 27th, 1987, as well as the club’s last ever party in September ’87. “To the best of my knowledge, there are snippets of it online but not the whole film. Some of the footage was used in the Mel Cheren documentary, “Maestro”.”, wrote DJ SimonC, the administrator on the fanpage.
The colours are dark, the figures are blobs, the audio sketchy, but the video should be a treat for nostalgics and the curious, given the club’s now-legendary reputation amongst dance music fans. Fans looking for periodic hits of vintage dance music genius are also advised to follow the Paradise Garage Bot on Twitter, if they don’t already.
