Swamp 81's fantastic covers

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in the North East of France in Lorraine. But I moved away when I was 18.

Where did you study?

I have studied in the University of Grenoble just by the French Alps and have done my final year in Sherbrook University in Canada. Then I did a second bachelor degree in a year in Media at East Anglia University in England. I got a 2.1 which was pretty good considering that I couldn’t speak English then.

How did you get involved with Swamp81?

I met Loefah few years ago in a club in New York and we had a good conversation and we became friends since then. Soon after I moved to London, he asked me to work on a logo for a project he was starting. So I have submit him few ideas and he picked one. I love working with Loefah. He is just awesome also he has been a really supportive with my art and projects over the years. I was really flattered when he asked me to work on the first cover.

Have the Brixton Riots influenced your work at all?

Not directly but more as a concept and as a event to not be forgotten. The art is more influences South London and the music.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am working on few covers at the moment. I have just sent the brand new Jehst’s album to print last week. I am working on the next Guilty Simpson release, Swamp012 which is Funkbias (Zed Bias and Funk Butcher together) and Swamp014 which is Sicko Cell.

Any exciting projects coming up?

Yeah actually I just came out of a meeting today with the guys from Outlook festival. And they just asked me, in collaboration with LAVA collective, to work on a large art installation for the festival. I am really exited about this news. I am going to try to get few artists that I love with me to Croatia and together we are going to build an installation using different artists abilities to create an installation that is going to make ravers trip out.

What music are you listening to a lot at the moment?

I am listening to a lot of Footwork at the moment. DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn got me completely hooked on their mad loops. I want to Bang Face Festival with them and since then I have been craving for some fresh Chicago beats. But this week I have been listening to lot of Gil Scott Heron which has sadly just passed away.
