Mount Kimbie

Mount Kimbie’s set may have changed little in the last year, but on this weekend’s evidence there’s little need to alter a winning formula: from its brisk opening with recently re-released single Carbonated to the breezy jam of Before I Move Off, the London duo have perfected something that works as well in a cavernous tent as in the likes of Boiler Room, and suits perfectly a mid-afternoon slot that begins in cloudy melancholy and works its way toward a sunkissed conclusion.

It’s in the introspective mid-set meditation of Ode To Bear and an extended Maybes that the pair find their most affecting moments, with the former whistling and sighing through the crowd, and the latter earning a deserved, hushed singalong, while Field’s insistent build-up is their crowning moment, throbbing and ramping up a tension only to burst it and bring with it the festival’s first moment of true euphoria.
