Drums Off Chaos and Jens-Uwe Beyer - Second Half [MP3]

Drums Of Chaos are the percussion ensemble headed up by former Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit. His rhythms were key in bringing about the iconic German band’s sound, and in Drums Of Chaos he continues to weave and bend rhythm hypnotically.

The group are short on recorded output, and ‘Magazine 3’ constituted their first release other than a mail order CD put out in 1985 and the occasional track making it onto compilations here or there. Also collaborating on the record is Jens-Uwe Beyer, or Popnoname, of the komische experimental ensemble Cologne Tape. The resulting music is thrilling stuff. On Second Half, the drums patter and canter bewitchingly like they’ve been set down on musical ley lines, while dramatic, haunted sounds appear and fade in and out around them like a ghostly army in full charge.

Thanks go, once again, to Altered Zones for bringing this to our attention. Cheers guys!

Magazine released Drums of Chaos and Jens-Uwe Beyer’s ‘Magazine 3’ on 28th February 2011
