Joe - MB/Studio Power On

Joe first came to our attention with the release of his incredible Claptrap in 2010. To say that he has kept a low profile since then would be an understatement – one or two remixes here and there has been pretty much it. MB/Studio Power On, his new 12” for Untold’s Hemlock Recordings label, is just as understated a return as you’d expect. Both tracks seem fairly ignorant of current club trends and instead carve out their own niche – MB is a slow, almost filter-disco chugger, whilst Studio Power On is an exercise in pared-down, clangy industrialism, coming to a halt just as it seems to get going. It’s weird and, as with a lot of the best mutant club music, hard to say why it’s works so well. But it works so, so well.
