Joy Orbison's new single '2M3 2U' offers his "UK take on hyperpop"
UK dance scene frontrunner Joy Orbison returns today with the release of his new single ‘2M3 2U’.
Marking his first solo track since the release of ‘pinky ring’ and ‘red velve7’ earlier in the year, the new cut sees Joy O continue his journey to the dance floor with a future-facing, bass-heavy anthem.
“I see this one as a bit of a UK take on hyperpop,” says Joy. “But with a bit of bass weight. The vocal part could be a sample of some garbled message of love in Bladerunner or the Fifth Element, and the main riffs had me thinking about the DJ Narrows records we’d play at youth club parties.
“Interesting top lines seem to be a bit absent in my world these days and I’ve definitely been influenced by contemporary drum & bass and their endless search for the catchiest wobble,” he adds.
Last month, the producer and DJ stamped his sound across Jorja Smith’s ‘Rose Rouge’ with a hefty UK garage remix he said reminded him of his “earlier work”. The track followed his collaborative effort with London duo Overmono on ‘Blind Date’ the month prior.
After making his way onto our 25 Best Albums of 2021 list last year with his critically acclaimed debut album ‘still slipping vol.1’, Joy O is ending 2022 in equally fine form with an absolute belter of a track for the winter months ahead.
