Mirror Mirror - Interiors (Jamstation Exteriors Remix)

A reflection of an echo snakes through Brooklyn producer Jamstation’s remix of the title track from New York band Mirror Mirror’s forthcoming second album. The voice of singer David Riley is stretched to a yearning, pitched-up thread, while the power of the drums is augmented by an insistent, marching hand-clap. It’s stately and haunting all at once: Miss Havisham as an MP3 (download on the right).

Mirror Mirror turned to Rumi Missabu, one of the few remaining members of 60s San Franciscan psychedelic drag troupe The Cockettes, to bring the original to life on screen. Watch his moving performance below.

If you’re not familiar with The Cockettes, I can’t recommend this 2002 documentary enough. Dossier Magazine have a great interview with Mirror Mirror and Rumi, which is also definitely worth a read.
