Premiere: Hear Clark's eerily atmospheric 'Primary Pluck'

The Warp experimentalist's 'Kiri Variations' LP is on the way...

Clark is about to release ‘Kiri Variations’, an album that finds the Warp mainstay more experimental than ever before.

Coming out via his own Throttle Records, it was initially composed to score the BAFTA-nominated TV drama Kiri. Only a fraction of the music appeared in the show, with the rest providing Clark with fresh new ideas to turn into an album.

A movement away from his more techno-focused records and towards the ambient soundscapes he’s also explored throughout his career, ‘Kiri Variations’ finds Clark diving into the piano, harpsichord, clarinet, strings, electronics and voice – with ‘Cannibal Homecoming‘ featuring his own vocal.

“In addition to my usual methods of controlled randomness and tangential ideas, the TV commission was a prominent spark for new approaches. It’s a great balancing contrast with the solipsistic studio album”, Clark says.

He recently headlined ‘Bach Evolution’ at the Royal Albert Hall, reinventing Bach’s work in his own style with accompaniment from cellist Oliver Coates.

‘Primary Pluck’, which we’re premiering below, boasts elements of horror with childlike beauty, making for something wholly atmospheric.

Clark’s ‘Kiri Variations’ will be released on 26 July 2019 via Throttle Records
