Rush Midnight - Rush Midnight [album stream]

For the past few years Rush Midnight has been slinking to the lowkey brand of synth-pop that reframes the smoke and lights of the 80's in a modern indie context. You could compare him to Dev Hyne's current project Blood Orange, for example, or better still Twin Shadow, who Rush Midnight (real name Russ Manning) used to play bass for.

He started off with the '+1' EP on Cascine and, after some loose singles like You Don't Give Me Your Love, is now releasing his self-titled debut album on Last Gang Records. His songwriting is typically dark, instrospective and romantic – it's telling that many of the song titles feature "I", "me", and "you" – and his key stylistic influences show in cooly done renditions of dramatic new wave like the closer All That I Want, stringy disco-funk like You Leave Me Without and even The Police-esque "Regatta de Blanc" in One You'll Outrun.
