Alt-Pop Artist Paige Bea Signs to DMY and Announces 'Floods'

"Bass-heavy, synth-laden alternative pop for the gays and the girls"

Dalston based alt-pop artist Paige Bea has signed to DMY Artists for a series of singles kicking off with 'Floods' out next week.

Paige Bea is a musician, writer, vocalist and occasional DJ. Originally trained as an opera singer, the music Paige now releases sits somewhere in between alternative pop and electronic r&b. Influenced by acts such as Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek and Imogen Heap, Paige’s new single drops via DMY Artists on March 27th.

The project is a collaboration with the talented Berlin-based artist and producer Gabriel Gifford with artwork designed by Greek computational artist and member of the transmoderna collective Chloe Karnezis. The project is also being supported and funded by Help Musicians.

In addition to her solo projects, Paige is also a dance vocalist for rising electronic acts such as Dejector, Where’s Otto and Trutopia and also co-runs Higher Ground - a jazz collective with a monthly jam session at 91 Living Room. She brings all these different experiences into her high-energy and synth-heavy live sets full of glitchy beats and soaring vocals which has seen her grace the main stage of El Dorado Festival and venues such as The Lexington, Rough Trade Nottingham and Avalon Cafe. Most recently, she supported Sans Soucis at Corsica Studios on the London leg of her tour and there’s rumours she’ll be joining a fellow queer pop artist at their sold out show next month.

Who are you and where are you from?

"Hi!! I’m Paige Bea, I’m an artist, vocalist, songwriter and occasional DJ and I’m originally from the dizzy heights of Surbiton but now live in Dalston."

Describe your sound in a sentence...

"Bass-heavy, synth-laden alternative pop for the gays and the girls."

Where, how and who with do you make your music?

"My songs usually start as barely audible voice notes whispered on the Victoria Line but I also share a studio in Haggerston with some pals that has a janky old piano in it that’s become a loyal songwriting companion. For production, I’ve worked with loads of amazing people but this next EP has been conjured up with the help of DMY alumnus and Berlin-based producer extraordinaire Gabriel Gifford. More recently, I’ve been in the studio writing some pretty left-field stuff with the magical Jacana People boys and guitarist and all round legend Dan Rothman."

Where do you want to be in 12 months time?

"Playing more shows! Jeeeez the songs sound SO good when the bass gets to wobble through a huge system so I just want booking agents and festival bookers to catch the hype!! I’d also love to be somewhere close to making a physical release, I have belatedly started a record collection and just desperate to have a vinyl of my own. Oh and if I could co-write between 5 and 10 top 40 hits to keep funding the crazy path that is being an independent artist in 2024 that would be great too. Not too much to ask I don’t think?"

What releases should we look out for?

"My first DMY release will be out imminently! It’s hitting virtual shelves on March 27th and it’s a glistening, silky, Caroline Polachek-inspired piece of sonic wonder, if I may say so myself. Take note!!!!"

Where and when can we see you play live?

"Well, I can’t announce in full yet but I will have my biggest headline show yet this November and given the eight months I have to prepare, it’s going to be a guaranteed show stopper. Before then, I will be gracing the stage at How The Light Gets In festival this coming May and open to bringing the house down basically anywhere else that will have me. Slide into those DMs!!!"
