Amazing label maps America's eccentric/forgotten local soul explosion

One of North America’s best reissues labels, Numero Group has been uncovering lost gems and presenting them to the world on a series called ‘Eccentric Soul’. The name is a description of the label as much as the much – charting the vast archive of American soul music housed on micro-labels, bedroom recordings and private presses, it presents the undercurrent of local and independent music bubbling under the black music explosion of the 60s and 70s.

Usually categorised by city or label, it’s beyond-worth getting into, seriously, and their latest project is their most ambitious. A box-set of 45 lushly presented 45“s, each reissue comes from a different artists and a different state, a microsite has just been launched, presenting a different artist/state every day on a clever little map.
