Arthur Russell's 'Another Thought' to be issued on vinyl for first time

Russell's rare, posthumous album will receive a vinyl pressing by Bristol's Arc Light Editions.

Arthur Russell's posthumous album 'Another Thought' is set to be pressed on vinyl for the first time by Bristol's Arc Light Editions.

The album was first released in 1994, two years after Russell's death, and contains tracks dating from between 1982 and 1990 compiled by Mikel Rouse and producer Don Christiensen. 'Another Thought' is not the most beloved of Russell's records, but it does contain some of his best and most recognisable work, such as the sublime pop song This Is How We Walk On The Moon.

The original album was issued on CD via Point Music (it's now very rare), and was reissued later in 2006 by Orange Mountain Music. However, the Arc Light Editions version will be the first time the album has been released on vinyl.

Arc Light Editions is a label curated by Jennifer Lucy Allan from The Wire magazine with Bristol's Multiverse collective, a studio and label that also runs Subtext and Tectonic. Their aim is to repress "important albums" that have gone out of print and are extortionately priced secondhand, according to their website – no unearted obscurities, no deluxe editions.

The reissue will come with new, minimalist artwork, which you can see above, a pleasant riff on the original artwork.

Earlier this year, we counted down Arthur Russell's dance collaborations to celebrate what would've been his 62nd birthday.

Arc Light Editions will release 'Another Thought' soon, head here for more information on pre-orders.
