Bobby Womack collaborates with Damon Albarn and Richard Russell

The inimitable soul veteran co-writes with producers Damon Albarn and Richard Russell on his new album.

As the soul legend’s latest album nears completion co-producer and XL Recordings chief Richard Russell has spilt the beans on the project in an interview with Billboard Magazine. Womack, Russell and Albarn have worked together seperately in the past for the Gorillaz and DRC Music respectively and it is revealed that the majority of the tracks have already been completed with a release date touted for next year.

The interview also goes on to discuss the content of the album and its place in the current R&B landscape. Russell interestingly describes the near-finished work as a “very modern soul record” striking a balance between classic acoustic music and newer sounds and suggests resonances with the much-celebrated Frank Ocean and The Weeknd.
