Botany - 'Lava Diviner' [album stream]

Fleshed-out, imaginative beats from the Texan producer for Western Vinyl.

Texan producer Botany has brightened up the first day of post-BST, post-storm gloom in the Dummy office no end with the full stream of his sun-streaked debut album 'Lava Diviner (Truestory)'. Coming out on Western Vinyl tomorrow, the record is a deliriously fun collection of warm, imaginative hip hop-inflected beats full to the brim with lovingly interwoven field recordings and samples.

The record opens with harmonised vocals that lap like waves over sprinkles of light percussion, before diving straight into the playfulness of Anchor, with its melody heard as if from a passing car radio and its lush bed of recordings of children laughing and splashing water; it's as tantalising an album opener as it is a thematically cohesive one, inviting the listener to get caught up in its current, warm like the ocean under the summer heat and just as full of unpredictable flashes. From the chaotic hand-clapping cacophony of Cant Goosemother to the hip hop bounce of Quatic, there's never a moment's peace on this densely layered, restlessly imaginative record that we simply can't stop spinning. Storm? What storm?

Western Vinyl will release 'Lava Diviner' on the 29th October 2013.
