Coucou Chloe apologises for use of an Islamic hadith in a track played at Rihanna's Fenty show

Producer and vocalist Coucou Chloe has apologised after her track ‘DOOM’, which samples a sacred Islamic text, was used in Rihanna’s recent Savage x Fenty show.

During the lingerie fashion show, which took place on Friday (October 2nd), Rico Nasty was introduced to the soundtrack of ‘DOOM’, which features an Islamic hadith.

Widespread criticism was directed at Rihanna and the Fenty brand over social media, with people writing: “this is very disrespectful and should be apologised for”.

Hadiths are sacred texts that are revered in Islam as they represent the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad.

Coucou Chloe has since apologised, stating the track was made using samples from Baile Funk tracks she found online, and did not realise at the time that they were taken from a hadith.

She has also confirmed that the song is being “urgently” removed from all streaming platforms.

UPDATE (06/10/20): Rihanna has posted about the incident on her Instagram stories, writing: “I’d like to thank the Muslim community for pointing out a huge oversight that was unintentionally offensive in our savage x fenty show.

I would more importantly like to apologize to you for this honest, yet careless mistake. We understand that we have hurt many of our Muslim brothers and sisters, and i’m incredibly disheartened by this!

I do not play with any kind of disrespect toward God or any religion and therefore the use of the song in our project was completely irresponsible! Moving forward we will make sure nothing like this ever happens again.
