Daft Punk return with archival Todd Edwards collab 'The Writing of Fragments of Time'

Fans can expect even more unreleased and archived material from the pair to land this May...

Daft Punk surprised fans by dropping a previously unheard track earlier today, building anticipation for the forthcoming re-issue of ‘Random Access Memories’.

‘The Writing of Fragments of Time’ is an eight-minute track consisting of rehearsals, offcuts, and behind-the-scenes chatter between Daft Punk and garage legend Todd Edwards, who previously worked with the duo on the 2013 track ‘Fragments of Time’ - one of the first Daft Punk cuts to capture human voices.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Todd Edwards explained that both himself and Thomas Bangalter were recorded during the track's writing process: “You'll hear me laughing because Thomas came up with some really damn witty lines in it."

Edwards added: “It's emotional for me - it was a natural reaction to get a big smile on my face and bring me back to that moment. The whole experience was life-changing for me, and I'm not being dramatic!”

The new track will join a further 30 minutes of unreleased and archived material from the duo when the re-issue album (celebrating a decade since the release of the record) drops later this year on May 12.

Daft Punk's story has been traced in a new book by Disco Pogo. The magazine's predecessor Jockey Slut published Daft Punk’s first ever interview back in 1994, their first ever magazine cover and featured them on the line-ups of many of their Bugged Out nights over the years.

The 250 page hardback book, titled ‘Daft Punk – We Were The Robots’, covers the duo's earliest days right up to their unexpected split in February 2021. The book will ship in Spring and is available to order here.
