Empress Of - Champagne

Stream the fruity clip for the Brooklyn artist's debut single on the No Recordings label.

Brooklyn-based musician and producer Empress Of, real name Lorely Rodriguez,
gets her first release on the No Recordings label with Champagne, a slice of
insistent synth-pop.

The verse sections capture a woozy decadence, as Rodriguez gently asks us to
not ‘spill champagne all on yourself tonight’. Before things get too calm, stabbing
guitars cut into the mix, as the vocal seeps into the more luxuriously layered
sound. The guitars are later utilised to great effect as some rippling summery
chords allow the track to breathe as it approaches its close.

The flipside to Champagne is the reverb-tinged Don’t Tell Me, which *we featured
on Dummy*
last month. The single is accompanied by a pretty fruity video,
which certainly follows up on Rodriguez’s interest in exploring colour – as
evidenced in her original colorminutes series.
