Fatboy Slim will be the first DJ ever to play the House of Commons

The Pope’s resignation may have been yesterday’s world-shattering news, but it pales in comparison to today’s: Fatboy Slim has been announced to play at the House of Commons. The man who pushed the idea of the superstar DJ will play on behalf of the Last Night A DJ Saved My Life Foundation to celebrate the House The House competition on March 6th, a competition that encourages community engagement in 16-25 year olds through grassroots initiatives, and to raise awareness for community music projects. Fatboy Slim will be the support act for the competition winner, who will play at the Commons terrace bar.

Fatboy Slim said: “I’ve played some exciting and unique places around the world from Bondi Beach to The Great Wall of China to an Igloo but playing in the House of Commons might be the most unique to date. I’m a proud supporter of Last Night A DJ Saved My Life and the work that it’s doing with House The House. Music is a huge part of my life and to give something back in this way is amazing.”

It’s the first time a DJ has ever played the House of Commons. Considering the early parliamentary opposition to acid house during the late 80s and early 90s, this could be seen as an ultimate acceptance of the ravers – either that, or the final stage of the movement’s institutionalisation.
