FLO crowned winners of BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2023
British R&B girl group FLO have made history by becoming the first ever group to win Radio 1’s BBC Sound of 2023, announced today, and the BRIT Rising Star Award 2023.
After releasing their debut single 'Cardboard Box' only 10 months ago, the trio's contemporary take on 00s R&B has connected with hundreds of thousands of R&B fans globally, recently making them the first group to win the BRIT Rising Star.
Beating off competition from Fred again.. and Nia Archives, FLO are now following in the footsteps of global superstars including Adele, Sam Smith and Celeste who all started their career with both accolades.
“Wow, we did it! To win this accolade not even a year after we released our debut single Cardboard Box is wild," says the group. "We feel so connected to our British music roots winning the BBC Sound Of and admire the artists who have come before us, especially our gal Pinkpantheress winning last year!
"Thank you to everyone who voted for us and put girl groups back on the map," they add. "To be recognised for our music and people to believe in our vision inspires us to go further this year! 2023 we’re ready!”
