Ghostpoet - Meltdown (Squarepusher vs Ghostpoet Version)
Boundary – erm – pushing Warp man Squarepusher has taken on Ghostpoet’s returning single Meltdown, but the results aren’t nearly as chaotic or mangled as that might sound on paper. Ripping out most of Meltdown’s piano progressions and orchestral swagger, in its place is sharp, shiny beatwork. Ghostpoet’s mumbled verses and Woodpecker Wooliams’s tender hook remain untouched – and as that “Version” tag suggests, Squarepusher offers an alternative sonic backdrop for Meltdown, as opposed to reaching to its core and deconstructing it. While the overall effect is positive, if anything you’re left thinking those polished, club-prepped beats could maybe do with a tad more roughening up.
Play It Again Sam will release ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’ on the 6th May 2013.
