Goldsmiths University start a record label with Matthew Herbert

SE London university links with SE London label, releases a free mixtape and announces a launch show.

Goldsmiths University and Matthew Herbert’s Accidental Records have joined to create NX Records. The university’s music department, whose music alumni include Katy B and James Blake as well as Blur and John Cale before them, has linked with the label to form the independent student-run label, whose remit involves introducing and nurturing new talent from the local area.

Matthew Herbert described his supporting role as an investor and educator, providing the new label with “the tools, skills, confidence and backing to be able to not only realise a meaningful version of their music, but to own the rights in it and to take an active role in how that music is made public.”

NX Records will launch on the 9th of May at the university’s PureGold music festival at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on the Southbank, and to whet your appetite the label have also released a free mixtape featuring music made and curated by Goldsmiths students.

You can stream the NX mixtape below, and full details for PureGold are available at the official site.
