Gwilym Gold - Triumph

A song of two halves, both in opposition with one another.

Gwilym Gold has shared a new song from his forthcoming album 'A Paradise'.

Triumph is one of the album's centrepiece moments. The song can be split in two: on one side, it's a quiet, slowly-building, piano-driven piece, while on the other it's a fast, rhythmic piece of electronic music, with tom rolls that move at a neck-breaking pace. Both sides remain in opposition throughout Triumph, never really reconciling themselves – yet that somehow becomes the key to the song's excellence rather than its downfall.

Fans of Gwilym Gold's past work might recognise a similarity in the sound of Triumph and that heard on Hyetal's second album 'Modern Worship', which Gold contributed to – Triumph features additional production from Hyetal.

Gold talks briefly about that collaboration with The FADER, describing the finished product as "some kind of hymn to hubris."

Gold performs at the Purcell Room of the Queen Elizabeth Hall at as part of the London Southbank Centre's spring electronic music programme on May 30th.
