James Blake plays his new D'Angelo edit

Harmonimix - aka James Blake - plays edit of R&B classic Left and Right on Rob Da Bank's Radio 1 show.

James Blake, under his Harmonimix moniker, has done a fantastic edit of D’Angelo’s classic track Left and Right from the 2000 album “Voodoo”. Blake played it on “Rob da Bank’s” Radio 1 show last Friday, when the pair went one on one off (taking turns to put records on) throughout the two hour show. The Mercury-award nominated producer/singer-songwriter and DJ Rob da Bank of Sunday Best Recordings also played tracks by Joy Orbison and Boddika, Tycho, Lana del Ray and Beyonce.

After releasing a series of acclaimed dubstep/post-dubstep EPs and 12s, Blake’s eponymous debut album demonstrated a growing interest in singer/songwriter territory, as does this edit, which melds fluent-if-halting beats with D’Angelo’s smooth vocals for a fresh take on the classic R&B track.

The full Rob da Bank and James Blake One On One Off radio show can be downloaded for another three days at the BBC Radio 1 website.
