Kwabs - Spirit Fade

The soulful Londoner does muted, electronic gospel on his new track.

London-based singer Kwabs has been known to cover James Blake before, bringing a fresh barefacedness to the post-dubstep star’s electronically caged woe. With an open and engaging style, his deep and instantly familiar voice is as tonally rich as it is expressly heartfelt, and is of the kind that makes you stop what you’re doing.

Taking notes from James Blake’s brand of statically-charged sadness, the new track from the soulful singer feels like a gospel song masked in electronics. The track looks at its listener straight on and implores them to feel, with the uplifting surge of fourth-wall-breaking imperatives like “lift your head up” and “raise your hand” and acoustic twinges plunging through monotonous synths and cavernous beats. It’s an emotional cut from a talented new voice, and you can stream it below.
