Little Simz shares new EP 'Drop 7'

It's an experimental seven-track project

Little Simz has just blessed us with new music for the first time in over a year.

Having cryptically teased 'Drop 7' with a tracklist and snippet on her Instagram earlier this week, the full seven-track project is now in our hands.

Always two steps ahead of the curve, the future-facing rapper is always evolving her sound, presenting fans with the unexpected on each project.

On the EP, Little Simz threads her trademark introspective lyricism through a labyrinth of the most experimental, club-infused beats we've seen from her so far. It's a result of a link-up with the producer Jakwob, whom Simz worked with several times in the past, most notably on the 2021 single 'Rollin Stone' and 2015's 'Time Capsule' and 'Devour'.

From the pacey and hard-hitting opener 'Mood Swings' to the Reggaeton inspired 'Fever' and dark, whispering 'I Ain't Feeling It', each track on 'Drop 7' stands alone in its own distinct sonic realm.

All bar one of songs on 'Drop 7' feature rapid, almost claustrophobic production. Simz switches things up for the EP's final track, a piano-led, jazz-tinged 'Far Away', which spotlights her buttery vocals as as she laments on losing a special connection.

'Drop 7' follows 2020's five-track EP, 'Drop 6', and marks 10 years since Little Simz shared 'Drop 1' in 2014.

It's been a big week for Simz, who scooped up Best Hip-Hop Act at the MOBO Awards on Wednesday night. She's also nominated for three BRIT Awards this year, including British Album of the Year for 2022's 'NO THANK YOU', British Artist of the Year and Best Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act.
