Rare photos from the first ever Glastonbury festival displayed in new book
A selection of rare photos from the inaugural Glastonbury festival are being published in a new book titled 'In the Vale of Avalon Glastonbury 1971'.
The photo book's creator Paul Misso has built up a huge archive of festival-goers over the years having attended every single edition of Glastonbury so far. Now, for the very first time, the photographer is releasing his snaps of when music fans descended on Worthy Farm’s debut event.
Musicians who performed at the now iconic Pyramid Stage that year included Hawkwind, Traffic, Arthur Brown and David Bowie. A new feature about the upcoming book in ID states Misso first attended the festival as a stills photographer on Nic Roeg’s movie 50 years ago.
The book reflects the daily evolution of Glastonbury itself, moving from daytime through to the night and back again. Highlighting the early festival's similarities and differences to its more modern, more commercial iteration today, 'In the Vale of Avalon Glastonbury 1971' is a fascinating time capsule recounting the humble beginnings of one of the world's most iconic festivals.
