The Southbank Centre announces year-long contemporary classical music festival

Those who like planning ahead will be pleased to hear that the Southbank Centre have already created a barrage of diary-fillers for 2013, by announcing that their “The Rest is Noise” festival will take place from January to December of next year.

The concept of the festival is based on a “bringing to life” of Alex Ross’s fantastic book on 20th century music, The Rest is Noise.

The year-long showcase, which will celebrate 20th century classical music in all its forms, is set to feature a variety of events including talks, concerts and films. The line-up most notably includes the world premiere of Steve Reich’s already-much-anticipated Radiohead symphony , Radio Rewrite .

Other stand-out events confirmed so far include a major centenary celebration of Poland’s leading 20th century composer Witold Lutosławski and the first ever joint concert by the Russian National and the London Philharmonic Orchestras.

The “The Rest is Noise” festival will begin on 19th January 2013. Further details will be announced in Autumn this year.
