Stormzy is reportedly working on a children's book tackling themes of race and diversity
Stormzy is said to be in talks with publishers about releasing a series of children’s books tackling themes of diversity.
The grime rapper has been a vocal figure in the fight for racial justice this summer, pledging to donate £10 million over the next ten years to “organisations, charities and movements that are committed to fighting racial inequality, justice reform and black empowerment within the UK.”
Now, the 2020 Mercury Award nominee is reportedly exploring different ways of continuing the conversation about racial issues in the UK.
According to The Sun, Stormzy is working closely with a ghost writer on the new project. An industry source quoted by the tabloid, stated: “Stormzy has a mass audience base, with a large demographic. Publishers feel his messaging on equality, race and social injustices would be good to translate into a series of children’s books”
“They have started conversations with his team, and ideas are still being bounced around. The lucrative deal would see him work with a ghostwriter and illustrator, but be heavily involved. One of the suggested working formats would be for Stormzy to write a chapter then the ghost writer to do the next.”
The new book series would follow the release of Stormzy’s autobiography ‘Rise Up: The #Merky Story So Far’, which he co-wrote with Jude Yawson.
