Tems Launches New Women Empowerment Initiative, The Leading Vibe
Two-time GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Tems has unveiled the Leading Vibe Initiative - a bold new platform designed to uplift and empower young women in music across Africa and beyond. Announced today, the initiative will debut this 8-9 August in Lagos, Nigeria, with programming aimed at nurturing emerging female artists, songwriters, and producers.
At the heart of the initiative is Tems’ mission to break down barriers for women in an industry where representation remains shockingly low - just 3% of music producers, 12.8% of songwriters, and 22% of artists globally are women. Inspired by her own struggles navigating the industry with limited support, Tems is now building the kind of ecosystem she once needed.
“By providing access, tools and opportunity, we’re creating space for them to find their voices, step into their power and shape the future of music,” Tems said in a statement.
The Lagos program will feature an intimate launch event followed by a day-long immersive experience, including workshops, masterclasses, and panel discussions with top-tier industry professionals. Participants will also receive hands-on training in music production - with support from Native Instruments - and mentorship from leading artists and executives.
Applications are now open to Nigerian-based young women in music at leadingvibe.com/initiative, with the deadline set for 13 July.
With further rollouts planned across Africa and a long-term goal to expand globally, the Leading Vibe Initiative signals a powerful new era of opportunity for the next generation of female music creators.
